If you enjoy nature and the quiet thrill of being neighbors with some of its most amazing creatures, eagles, loons, owls, hawks, swans, dragon flies, and beaver then this property is the perfect space for you. This very private 27.9 acre Northern Michigan retreat includes the main house, a cottage with 3 bedrooms and 2 baths plus an additional home located over 400 feet from the central part of the estate. You will find yourself nestled back in the woods with over 1160 feet of private lake frontage. A very picturesque and sturdy dock with a canopy for your boat was rebuilt recently. In addition to a safe, wave free location for your favorite boats along there is raised platform incorporated at the end if the dock where you can sit in your Adirondack chairs or bass fish. On the beach there is also a small boat house and a large deck for storage and recreation. You may read on for a description of the rooms and grounds or if you prefer a visual tour you may take a tour of our Grandview Beach Retreat Gallery of photos by clicking here. The main house is just up the hill from the shoreline and is a lovely center hall colonial with 4 Bedrooms. When you enter the house there is a large foyer with slate floors and room for a large Deacons bench. The Country Kitchen has oak wood floors and is quite spacious with plenty of work space, a pantry, a large commercial gas oven and grill combination. There is a large island separating the dining area which is quite lovely for entertaining with windows overlooking your trout or swimming pond and the hot tub. Sliders open to a nice deck for the barbecue or bird watching. You can see down the front yard towards the path that leads to the lake. Just down the hall you will find a private first floor laundry and storage room, a large closet and farther down a lovely staircase leading to the second floor. Just beyond the stairs is large airy and light filled room with an oak floor that is currently used as the billiards room with a large sized pool table with ample room for all of your favorite shots. There is also an interesting nook that currently houses a desk and computer station. This room could easily be converted to a main floor bedroom or a formal dining room. Just outside the billiard room, there is wonderful area to display art or family photographs. There is very large bathroom with beautiful blue ceramic tile as you start down the hall. The hallway becomes slate here instead of hardwood and opens to a large side entrance and a coat room. From here a large porch starts and wraps around the living room. The living room has a cathedral ceiling , is overlooked by a wonderful loft space from upstairs and is what was once the main part of the house before the newer two story home was added on. The walls are original hand hewn red pine logs circa 1898. There is a Franklin style gas fireplace for warmth and ambiance nestled on a slate hearth backed by field stone from floor to ceiling. A doorway leads off the living room to the 3 season porch. From the porch you can walk out towards the lake as you pass below an enormous black Walnut tree. Upstairs are more hardwood floors with two bedrooms at the top of the stairs and a loft overlooking the living room. This room makes a wonderful den, library or craft room. There is a full bath on this floor and farther down the hall is the master suite with a very large walk-in closet and a large full master bath with double sinks. The view from the master bedroom of the pond and lake is very peaceful and private. Throughout the lower level of the house you will find beautiful Northern White Cedar walls and ceilings. The area is 20' by 50' overall with an entertainment room, a large bedroom and bath. There is also a utility room and other storage. The grounds of the estate has room for ducks, chickens, horses and other livestock accompanied by the dragon flies, eagles and other wildlife native to the area. There are fruit trees, a large garden and beautiful floral landscaping along with very large glacial boulders that were brought in to accent the pond including a 9' "pudding stone". There is a two stall garage, a garden shop, a work shop and more in the handsome red painted outbuildings reminiscent of the original barn. Behind it there is a large carport available for boat or other storage. A short stroll past one of the flower gardens leads to a walkway to the charming Guest Cottage and office which for many years, before the large addition to the original house, served as a home. Today this cape cod style 2 bedroom house serves as a guest cottage. It has been remodeled as well and upstairs has a full cathedral ceiling. It is a delightful space with wood floors and large wooden cedar tree trunks to support the roof that was raised to provide a higher ceiling. This space serves well as a professional office, or artist studio with its hand stripped and hand rubbed tree trunk as part of the custom stair case. In addition to the main floor bath room there is a jet tub on the second floor with a roomy walk-in closet or laundry room lending the space to a master guest suite if needed. The cottage has 2 entrances on the main floor with a separate outside staircase leading to the second floor office. The main drive to the estate is long and private through the woods. It splits before reaching the main house so there is separate parking for the cottage and the main house. Located near the entrance to this property is the Gaylord to Mackinac CIty Trail. Indian River is about mid point in this trail which runs through Otsego and Cheybogan Counties. This Railroad grade is being paved with crushed limestone in the summer of 2007 to facilitate hiking and biking. In the winter it is a groomed snowmobile trail. The Inland Waterway is right at the end of the dock waiting for you to explore its 150 MIles of shoreline and approximately 38 miles of rivers and lakes. You may take an interactive picture tour courtesy of Fishweb by clicking this Inland Waterway Tour link. The views are breathtaking and wildlife abounds.
